1. What MQA accreditation means
Accreditation is MQA's formal recognition that a certificate, diploma or degree programme has met its quality standards and complies with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF). The Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR) is the national reference point for accredited programmes and qualifications.
This is a programme-level check. Two courses at the same institution can have different accreditation details, and a programme offered at another campus or through another mode may have a separate record. Verify the exact offer you are considering—not only the institution's name or marketing claim.

3. How to search the MQR
- Open the official MQR. Use www2.mqa.gov.my/mqr, not a copied list on an agent or institution website.
- Choose the institution category. Search under public institutions, private institutions or Malaysian Skills Qualifications as appropriate.
- Search by institution or keyword. MQA allows searches using the course code, qualification name, institution, field, course level, MQF level or state.
- Open the exact programme record. Similar names are not interchangeable. Match the full qualification title shown in your offer letter.
- Check every identifying detail. Compare the institution, address, programme name, reference number, accreditation dates, qualification level, credits, study mode and duration.
- Save evidence. Print or save the MQR record and note the date checked. Keep it with your offer and fee documents.

An MQR record can include the institution's name and address, application or accreditation reference, qualification name and field, validity period, qualification level, credit requirements, mode and duration of study.
MQA explains that the Full Accreditation date is tied to the graduating cohort. If a record shows a validity period or cessation date, do not assume that an intake date alone settles the issue—ask the institution for written confirmation covering your expected graduation.
5. What to do if the programme is not found
- Try a broader search. Search the institution and a distinctive word from the qualification rather than copying the entire marketing title.
- Check the Provisional Accreditation portal. A newer programme may have PA and therefore not yet appear in the MQR.
- Ask for the MQA reference number. Request it in writing from the institution and verify it yourself on the official portal.
- Check for a former programme or institution name. Some records show earlier names, but the provider should explain how the record applies to your offer.
- Contact MQA when details remain unclear. Use MQA's official enquiry and complaint channel rather than relying on a verbal assurance.
If the institution cannot provide a verifiable record or a clear written explanation, do not rush into a non-refundable deposit.
6. Why accreditation matters
MQA states that accreditation provides quality assurance and can support several later decisions. It can help with credit transfer and further study, eligibility for financial assistance, and consideration for public-sector employment. The receiving institution, funding agency or employer still applies its own conditions.

MQA accreditation and professional recognition are related but not identical. For regulated careers—such as medicine, engineering, architecture, accountancy or law—check the relevant Malaysian professional body's current requirements for the exact programme and graduating cohort.
The MQR may flag programmes evaluated or recognised by a professional body, but you should still open the professional body's official register or contact it directly. Ask whether the route supports the registration, exemptions, practical training or licensing outcome you expect.
