1. When repayment starts

According to PTPTN, borrowers must begin repaying after 12 months from the end of the loan period without waiting for a repayment notice. Monthly Ujrah begins from month 13. Payments made during the first 12 months are encouraged because PTPTN says no Ujrah is charged during that period.

Your controlling document is the repayment schedule in your own account. Check myPTPTN rather than relying on an estimate from friends or an old article.

2. How long repayment can take

Ujrah principalStandard repayment period
RM10,000 or below60 months / 5 years
Above RM10,000 to RM22,000120 months / 10 years
Above RM22,000 to RM50,000180 months / 15 years
Above RM50,000240 months / 20 years

PTPTN publishes a 1% Ujrah rate. Actual balances can also include items identified in the loan documents, so use your official statement for planning.

3. Pay consistently and on time

PTPTN says payments through agents or third parties should be made by the 27th of the month for updating in the current month's statement. A payment below the scheduled monthly amount can create arrears. Paying more is allowed and may shorten the loan and reduce total Ujrah charged over time.

Available routes include myPTPTN, direct debit, salary deduction, online banking and authorised counters or agents. Fees and posting times vary, so confirm the current channel details before paying.

4. Understand the CCRIS impact

PTPTN reports borrowers who should begin repayment after the 12-month period to CCRIS. Consistent payment according to the schedule helps keep the record current, but paying only the current month may not erase older arrears.

PTPTN states that full settlement is updated as “SELESAI” in CCRIS within 14 working days after the payment is updated in the PTPTN statement. Regular payment information is sent in the next reporting cycle, no later than the 15th of the following month.

5. If you cannot afford the instalment

Do not simply reduce the payment yourself. PTPTN offers rescheduling and restructuring for eligible Ujrah borrowers through myPTPTN. Restructuring can set an instalment based on affordability and may extend the term until age 60, subject to approval.

PTPTN indicates an estimated minimum instalment of 5%–8% of gross income for restructuring, subject to the available term and its approval. Where arrears exist, upfront settlement conditions may apply. Contact PTPTN early for an account-specific assessment.
