Match funding to your accounting route

A scholarship for an academic Diploma in Accounting may not cover ACCA tuition, and a CFAB award may stop before later ACA stages. Make a simple plan showing the first qualification, the next stage and the funding needed at each point.

Published scholarships to check

The examples below were checked against official sources on 18 October 2026. They are starting points for enquiries, rather than a list of confirmed open applications. Verify the current intake, results year, campus, deadline and complete terms with the awarding organisation.

SchemePublished exampleCheck before applying
TAR UMT Merit ScholarshipFor September/November 2026 foundation/diploma intakes, the table lists 100% tuition waiver for at least eight SPM As counting only A+ and A; other tiers have different criteria.Diploma eligibility, campus and intake; renewal CGPA and straight-pass conditions. TAR UMT’s Diploma in Accounting page links to this scheme.
Sunway TES Accounting ScholarshipThe published FIA table lists eight SPM As, including A-, for full FIA tuition coverage.Applicable intake and campus, certificate-validity wording, first-semester payment and charges beyond tuition. Confirm current terms directly.
Sunway–ICAEW Global Accountant ScholarshipThe SPM table distinguishes eight-As CFAB coverage from a nine-As package extending to Professional Level; listed benefits include specified exam and registration fees.Exact grade definition, covered stages, campus, results year and conditions for later Advanced Level study.
Khazanah Watan-ACCA Scholarship ProgrammeA published school-leaver professional pathway through MyPAC, with full coverage described on the programme page.Next application window and full offer terms. The application portal currently says applications have ended.

These examples do not establish eligibility at every branch of an institution. In particular, Sunway’s published terms contain campus and later-study conditions; obtain the terms for the campus you plan to attend, including Johor Bahru where relevant.

Coursemic tip

Save the official page or written information you relied on, together with the date you checked it.

Check eligibility beyond the number of As

Read how each scheme counts A+, A and A-. Check compulsory subjects, citizenship, age, results year and whether trial results are accepted. The entry requirement for a course and the threshold for a scholarship are separate decisions.

For example, Yayasan Khazanah’s published Watan-ACCA criteria include at least six A/A+ grades in recent SPM results, specified core-subject grades, leadership and extracurricular participation, and an age condition. Meeting academic criteria does not guarantee selection or an open application window.

Ask whether your scholarship requires a separate application, interview, income assessment or supporting documents. Keep the written eligibility assessment with your offer.

Look for need-based aid as well as merit awards

If your grades do not meet a large merit award, ask the college’s financial aid office about need-based assistance and available bursaries. Enquire about relevant state foundations, zakat assistance where eligible, community funds and employer or association sponsorships. Check the official administrator’s rules for your circumstances.

Prepare household income evidence and explain any financial circumstances that the application requests. Ask whether assistance is a grant, fee reduction or repayable loan, and whether it can be combined with another award. A payment instalment arrangement changes when fees are paid; it does not itself reduce the total fee.

Check PTPTN against the exact course

PTPTN’s published funding table includes full-time diploma study at eligible public institutions, polytechnics and private institutions. Its professional-course category lists public institutions (IPTA). Do not assume a private-college FIA, ACCA or CFAB package qualifies because an academic diploma at the same college is eligible.

The course must meet the applicable approval and PTPTN registration requirements, and the applicant must meet personal eligibility conditions. Check the exact course in the application system and confirm with PTPTN and the institution. PTPTN is a loan; show it separately from scholarships in your budget.

Use PTPTN’s official education-loan information and our eligibility and loan-amount guide. Ask both funders about any restrictions on combining support.

Read coverage and renewal conditions

Request a written list of covered costs. “Full tuition” may leave registration, subscriptions, exams, materials, resits, accommodation and transport payable. A larger package may cover specified exams but only for certain attempts or stages. Ask when deductions, reimbursements or payments take effect.

Check renewal grades, attendance, straight-pass requirements and maximum funded duration. Ask what happens if you fail, defer, transfer, withdraw or change professional route. Confirm any service bond or repayment clause and whether outside sponsorship must be declared.

As a concrete example, TAR UMT’s published full-waiver diploma tier requires a qualifying renewal CGPA and straight passes, with lower CGPA bands reducing or withdrawing the award. Budget for the possibility that support changes rather than assuming the starting percentage lasts automatically.

Compare the remaining cost in ringgit

Use the same study period and endpoint for every offer. Calculate total tuition and other expenses, subtract confirmed non-repayable funding, then show loans and the family contribution separately. Check professional fees charged in another currency and allow for changes.

Illustrative budgetOffer AOffer B
TuitionRM30,000RM20,000
Tuition waiver50%: RM15,00025%: RM5,000
Other costs over the same periodRM10,000RM6,000
Cost remaining before loansRM25,000RM21,000

These invented figures illustrate the calculation; they are not college quotes. A higher waiver percentage can still leave a higher cost. Also compare deposits and first-semester cash needed before aid is credited, and add a separate retake or extended-study allowance.

Prepare applications and confirm the offer

Keep a shortlist with official links, intake, deadline, required documents and application status. Prepare your results, identification, offer letter, income evidence where required, and records of activities or achievements. Follow each administrator’s certification and submission instructions.

Save the submission acknowledgement and respond to requests for missing information. Before accepting, obtain the scholarship offer and fee schedule in writing. If an award covers only the first stage, ask how later ACCA or ACA study will be funded, including how qualification changes affect the package.

Official sources and intake checks

Sources checked on 18 October 2026: TAR UMT Merit Scholarship, TAR UMT Diploma in Accounting, Sunway TES Accounting Scholarship, Sunway–ICAEW scholarship, Khazanah Watan-ACCA programme, its application portal and PTPTN loan information. Published pages and brochures may refer to different intake years; confirm the terms that apply to your offer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get accounting funding straight after SPM?

Published schemes include academic diploma merit awards and professional-accounting starting routes. Eligibility depends on the exact programme, campus, intake and sponsor criteria; an application window must also be open.

Does full tuition coverage mean I pay nothing?

Not necessarily. Confirm exam fees, registration, subscriptions, materials, resits and living costs individually, along with when the award is credited.

Can I use PTPTN for a private professional-accounting course?

Do not assume so. PTPTN’s published professional-course funding category lists public institutions. Verify the exact course and your eligibility directly; an eligible academic diploma at the same college does not establish eligibility for every professional package.

Can scholarships be combined?

It depends on each award’s terms. Obtain written confirmation from the relevant funders before assuming two awards or a scholarship and loan can be used together.

Is the Khazanah Watan-ACCA scholarship open now?

At the 18 October 2026 check, the official application portal said applications had ended. Check the official programme and portal for the next announced window rather than assuming a new cycle is open.
